How Can Herbal Medicine Help?

Herbal Medicine can be a reliable and effective method of treating many different issues.

Herbal and Alternative Medicine can help with digestive issues, mood disorders and anxiety, troubles sleeping, high blood pressure, immune issues (autoimmune conditions stand out here) and many more.

As a Byron bay herbalist student I am passionate about the different ways herbal medicine can help to promote health.

Alternative & Holistic Medicine

While herbalism can assist with many of the issues above the real art and skill of a good practitioner is to find the root cause of why these symptoms are occurring.

Here in Byron Bay we are spoiled with choice for good practitioners that understand this and apply it to their practice. This is something that is missed all to often in conventional or biomedical medicine. While it is true that an integrative doctor can help find the root cause (their testing is incredible) often their medicine falls short of fixing the issue.

Even in alternative medicine circles there has been a trend towards ‘green allopathy’ or treating to mask the symptoms. The growing popularity of Functional Medicine is helping to change that paradigm.

Finding A Balance. Herbal Medicine & Treating The Root Cause

For quite some time I believed that finding and treating the root cause of the illness was the highest priority.

Over the years I have learned to temper my approach.

While it is still incredibly important, the symptoms still need to be addressed and remedied. Not only is the two pronged approach more suited to the patient it is also better in the long run.

Many times, especially in chronic illnesses, it can take months to get someone back on track to good health. During this time herbal medicine can play a big role in easing symptoms and making life more bearable for the patient.

In the end the root cause is addressed and remedied and the body can bring itself back into balance and vital health.
